About the Gala
Chesapeake Regional Health Foundation’s Gala has been a signature philanthropic event for nearly two decades, raising funds in support of Chesapeake Regional Healthcare. Net proceeds from our annual black-tie and themed event provide substantial support to help fund program and equipment needs, such as the expansion of the Sidney M. Oman Cancer Treatment Center, the renovation of the Emergency Department, and the purchase of necessary equipment to support the Level II Nursery in addition to the daVinci XI Surgical System. Most recently, the 2017 British Invasion themed Gala raised funding to support Chesapeake Regional Healthcare’s Mother Baby Unit. As one of the top delivery hospitals in the area, Chesapeake Regional Healthcare averages more than 2,400 births a year. The physicians and staff are dedicated to ensuring mother, father, baby and family receive the highest quality care regardless of their financial situation. The Mother Baby Unit offers expert physicians, experienced nurses and trained lactation specialists all ready to help care, coach and encourage as much as needed. A portion of the event proceeds will also benefit the Chesapeake Regional Health Foundation Endowment.
This year’s 2018 Wild Wild West themed Gala is raising funds to support Chesapeake Regional Healthcare’s Telestroke Program. As a certified primary stroke center, Chesapeake Regional is aiming to provide even more comprehensive and patient-centered services. The hospital currently averages 50-60 minutes in treating a stroke patient, and with the help of a national tele-neurology service, we can decrease that to 20-30 minutes. Studies show that for every minute delay, a patient loses 2M brain cells and for every hour delay, it takes 3.6 years off a patient’s life. Improving the telestroke program will help minimize disabilities in stroke patients and better serve the needs of our community.
